VayuMet's Wind Animation layer shows moving wind particles across India at six vertical levels from NOAA GFS — 10 m and 100 m (surface and turbine hub height), then 850, 500, 300 and 200 hPa through the mid- and upper-troposphere up to jet stream level. Static wind barbs are available at every level as an alternative to the animation.
| Dataset | Operator | Resolution | Update Cycle |
|---|---|---|---|
| GFS (Global Forecast System) | NOAA / NCEP | 0.25° | 4× daily (00Z, 06Z, 12Z, 18Z) |
Multi-level wind maps support flight planning at cruise altitude (see the Aviation Dashboard for turbulence and jet stream charts), wind farm site assessment and short-range generation forecasting (see Renewable Energy Forecast), and tracking synoptic-scale steering flow for monsoon systems and cyclones.
