VayuMet's Wind Animation layer shows moving wind particles across India at six vertical levels from NOAA GFS — 10 m and 100 m (surface and turbine hub height), then 850, 500, 300 and 200 hPa through the mid- and upper-troposphere up to jet stream level. Static wind barbs are available at every level as an alternative to the animation.

What's on the Map

Wind 10m — surface wind, the standard meteorological reporting height.
Wind 100m — hub-height wind for utility-scale wind turbines (see also Renewable Energy Forecast).
Wind 850 hPa — roughly 1,500 m, the low-level jet and monsoon flow level.
Wind 500 hPa — roughly 5,500 m, mid-tropospheric steering flow.
Wind 300 hPa and Wind 200 hPa — upper troposphere, where the subtropical and polar jet streams are strongest.
Barbs at every level above, for a static direction/speed readout instead of the animation.

Who Uses This
