A likely heatwave grips Punjab, Haryana, and North Rajasthan for the entire 10-day outlook, and it comes in two flavours: bone-dry and blistering in the west, thick and suffocating in the east. Meanwhile the actual monsoon — the rain, the trough, the clouds — has packed up and moved on, sitting far away over Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and the Northeast.

Look at the contrast: Faridkot hits an actual 45.0°C in bone-dry air (20% humidity) and feels almost exactly like it reads. Yamunanagar, 100 km away, never even reaches 36°C — but 62% humidity turns it into the muggiest, most oppressive spot on the entire map, feeling ten degrees hotter than the thermometer admits. Out on the North Rajasthan border, Ganganagar and Hanumangarh take the dry-heat route instead, both pushing past 42°C with desert-dry air. Same heatwave, two completely different ways of making you miserable — and it doesn't let up: Punjab stays in Severe Heatwave territory (departures past +6.4°C above normal) through the entire outlook, with a second peak at Firozpur (43.25°C actual) on the very last day, 01 September.
A heatwave that shouldn't be here: Punjab, Haryana, and North Rajasthan are looking at a likely, sustained heatwave through 01 September — in the last week of August, with the monsoon still nominally active elsewhere in the country. The answer is: not here. The monsoon trough sits over central-east India in both halves of the outlook, well south and east of Punjab — leaving the northwest under a weak pressure gradient with nothing to trigger rain, ventilate the heat, or break the humidity build-up.

The only rainfall of note anywhere in the country traces a narrow corridor from Chhattisgarh and Telangana through Jharkhand and into Bihar and the Northeast — a real but modest signal, just one Very Heavy Rain flag in the whole 10-day run (Korba, Chhattisgarh, 25 Aug). Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan carry zero rain alerts of any kind across the entire outlook. That's the other half of this story: it isn't just hot up there — it's bone dry, with nothing in the forecast to change either.
Watch — the northwest stays outside the monsoon: With the trough confined to central-east India and the Northeast, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan have no rain signal at all in this run. If that positioning holds in the next few model cycles, it points to a longer dry, hot spell over the northwest — not a brief gap.
